Localizing Your FFVP Creates Local Opportunities

West Virginia is a proud grower of many delicious fruits and vegetables and is also an ideal hub for food transportation and distribution. WV Harvest combines homegrown items and globally available foods in a localized supply chain that benefits communities in West Virginia.

ThoughtFoodness by WV Harvest is an educational tool for schools participating in the USDA’s FFVP. We use local and global foods as engaging teaching resources to make fresh fruits and vegetables fun and exciting for students. Our materials align with Common Core (CCSS), Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and Social Emotional Learning Standards (SEL), offering teachers activities that bring food items to life in the classroom. The ThoughtFoodness Approach focuses on regional needs to introduce healthy, new foods in underserved areas, addressing food insecurity and obesity by familiarizing students with better food choices in West Virginia.
